Workshop

The RDC Deutschland Group is not only an operator for the night train and auto train servicesbut also acts as a maintenance provider for commercial vehicles, locomotives, multiple units, as well as the unique seating, reclining, and sleeping cars.

In our specialist workshops, modern technology is combined with highly qualified personnel. We operate two of our own workshops and hold shares in Vienna. Our company Norddeutsche Eisenbahn Niebüll offers internal and external services for rail and commercial vehicles over an area of around 15,000 square metres in Niebüll. In Austria, our team is available for the maintenance, revisions, renewal, and conversion of rail vehicles through the Vienna Railway Maintenance Support GmbH.

By acquiring the Teutoburger Wald Eisenbahn on 1 November 2024, we have expanded our workshop infrastructure. The previously inactive workshop hall in Lengerich is to be brought back into operation, and we aim to recruit qualified personnel for a maintenance network within our RDC Deutschland Group.

Maintenance for rail and commercial vehicles

With the free workshop for rail and road-bound commercial vehicles, Norddeutsche Eisenbahn Niebüll offers all maintenance and repair services. Both small and large repairs are included in the offerings, as well as preparation for the main inspection. Three tracks are available for vehicles up to a total length of 52 metres. Two of these tracks are equipped with a continuous pit and can be accessed by both road and rail vehicles. The third track is accessible only by road vehicles; it features a brake testing station with its own pit as well as an individually adjustable lifting platform. Here, for example, articulated buses can be lifted for repairs. In June 2024, NEG expanded its service and training offerings with the introduction of two-shift operations.

Mobile maintenance of freight wagons

Efficiency and Availability

Mobile maintenance plays a central role in the operational safety, efficiency, and availability of rail vehicles. Therefore, the NEG team's fleet also includes the specialised equipment for the mobile maintenance of locomotives, passenger coaches, freight wagons, and road vehicles. Many maintenance and repair tasks can be carried out directly on-site, that is, on the tracks, in the stations, or at stabling points. Consequently, there is no need for transfer to a central workshop. By avoiding long transfer routes and reducing the time a train is out of service, both operating costs and potential revenue losses are minimised.
