History	The Teutoburger Wald Railway (TWE) has a long history. It connects East Westphalia with the Tecklenburger Land and was founded in 1899. The 93 km long branch line was constructed in three phases. The section from Gütersloh to Bad Laer was put into operation on 1 November 1900, followed by Bad Laer to Ibbenbüren on 19 July 1901, including the connection to the Dortmund-Ems Canal. The southernmost section between Gütersloh and Hövelhof followed on 19 April 1903. Due to declining passenger numbers, the last passenger train service was discontinued in 1978. Meaningful Integration of Rail, Bus, and Individual Mobility Offers About 50 years later, the reactivation of public transport in Westphalia is planned. By December 2027, the railway is expected to once again transport passengers to their destinations. A comprehensive modernisation, including new platforms and connections to other transport modes, is planned for this purpose. A key aspect is a meaningful integration with urban and regional bus services. This ensures that not only the areas around the stops but also many locations beyond come closer to the railway. This creates a swift door-to-door travel chain – with the train as the sprinter on the longest route. We see a significant change here. While buses and trains were once competitors, they are now complementary partners against individual transport and for achieving the transport transition. The goal is to realise the reactivation by the winter timetable in December 2027 with all industry partners.
